History of Takara Tomy Beyblade Releases and What to Expect in 2022

The saying goes something like you can learn what to expect in near future by looking back at the near past; I am going to investigate Takara Tomy’s beyblade releases from 2020 onwards and make some predictions for 2022 new releases. Now this is only my prediction and cannot be taken as official release information and may be very different than the actual released products. Having said that the reason to choose the timing of this article (Feb’22) is very specific – Takara Tomy’s new series has been getting released in March/April every year – Cho-Z layer in March 2018, Gatinko (GT) layer in March 2019, Superking series in March 2020 and finally Dynamite Battle series in April 2021.

You can refer to the above table to see last 2 year’s release history of Takara Tomy Beyblades. The first question that comes up is when we expect the new series release. A straightforward answer would be March/April. However, I strongly believe this will not be the case this year. There have only been 15 products released so far for DB series and none in January'22. Takara Tomy is most likely looking to push the new series release closer to summer. Hence, my prediction is that Takara Tomy will release the new series around end of May/beginning of June with B-199/B-200/B-201.

As the next product, B-196, will be released in March or April, the 2^nd obvious question is what will be the B-196 – is it a random booster or single booster beyblade or something else? What about B-197 and B-198 and so on? Looking at the history of B-156 and B-176, my best guess is that B-196 will be a random booster. Usually, “B-1*6” random booster set will have a very rare prize beyblade. B-197 will most likely be a single booster. B-198 is a hard call as there are precedence of it being a random booster or a single booster. My best guess is that B-198 will be a booster. Nonetheless, one thing is for certain. B-199 - B-202 will be very desirable items in your beyblade collection and one of them will be a full set with beyblades, launchers and stadium.

The next prediction will be about the number of products release from March to December 2022 and how many total items for the new series. Since 2018, the number of products released per year has been trending down. For example, 26 products were released from March 2018 to Dec 2018, 24 products were released from March 2019 to Dec 2019 whereas 15 products were released from April 2021 (start of new series) till end of Dec 2021. I expect ~15-16 products will be released this year and total ~17-18 will be released for the new series which will continue till April/May’23.

The final table with 2022 predictions is filled out below. I will do a sanity check around July’22 to see the accuracy of the table below. Needless to say, we are looking forward to another exciting year of beyblade releases, one of most sought-after toys made by Takara Tomy. I would like to add that the classics we defined the previous blog will remain the classics and will continue to be the favorites among many beyblade enthusiasts.
